Plants are actively growing in 3 inch deep pots. Shipped in the pot. These plants are about 1 year old and will be blooming size next year. Hardy in zones 7-9.
Amaryllis can be grown very successfully in containers indoors or in greenhouses. In zones 8-10 (hardier types in zone 7) they can be grown outdoors all year and make excellent garden plants.
Plant amaryllis bulbs outside anytime between September and January. Amaryllis does best in very light shade. Requires well-drained soils. Slow-release forms of 6-6-6 fertilizer are best.
Once bulbs are sufficient size for blooming (usually 2-3 years from seed) they can be forced to bloom. Center the bulb in a container and firm the medium around the roots and bulb base. When forcing, pot with 1/2 to 2/3 of the bulb above the soil to induce early flowering. Water the potting medium thoroughly and place the container in a cool, bright location. No further watering should be necessary until the bulb begins to sprout.
