Very cold hardy Banana Plant. Down to Zone 6 when well mulched. Musa itinerans var. xishuangbannaensis) Musa xishuangbannaensis. Newly discovered species of cold-hardy giant banana from Yunnan, China. This selection can bring a tropical look to more northern gardens, as it can over winter in freezing temperatures and come back again. Selected from a native that grows from the Mekong Delta to the Tibetan Plateau, the fruit on this plant is purple, accenting the olive-green foliage and red-to-purple streaked trunk. Growing to 15' tall with a 4' canopy in zone 6, this plant can grow much taller and wider in southern climates.
Starter plants are shipped in 3" deep pots. We try to keep all of our plants between 3-8" in height with excellent root systems.
