Alpinia zerumbet. The outstanding foliage of this dramatic ginger grows to 4 feet high. Very easy ginger to grow with upright habit and sturdy stems that need no staking. Called a shell ginger or shell flower because its individual pink flowers when in bud, resemble sea shells.
Cymbopogon citratus. Used in teas, medicine, and cooking. Beautiful clumping. Highly desirable type of lemon grass that cannot be grown from seed. Grown from clump divisions or tissue culture. Zones 9-11.
Basella rubra. Perennial tropical vine to 30 feet with amazing heat tolerance. While not a true spinach, the edible 4 inch leaves are a substitute for spinach, especially where spinach cannot tolerate the heat. Often grown as an ornamental. Very showy with red stems, white flowers, and dark purple berries.
Moringa oleifera. Often referred to as Miracle Tree because of it’s versatility and nutritious nature. The immature green pods called “drumsticks” are the most valued and used part of the tree. They are commonly consumed in India and are generally prepared in a similar fashion to green beans and have a slight asparagus taste.
Gynura crepioides. Two plants in one. An ornamental groundcover and a delicious vegetable. Leaves are great fresh. Added to a salad they have a spicy lemon pepper taste. Or cooked as stir fry, etc. Leaves can be anywhere from 1 1/2 - 3 inches long and are shiny dark green on top and iridescent purple underneath. While not a true spinach, it is very interesting substitute that- unlike spinach, tolerates hot weather. A tough sub-tropical plant that is considered a "tender perennial" in that it doesn't tolerate freezing.
Creeping form 12- 18" high and wide. Similar to Regular Creeping Rosemary but stronger flavored - has the highest oil content for commercial production. Heat tolerant.

Manihot esculenta 'variegata'. This is the variegated form of the plant from which tapioca is extracted. The starch comes from the root. It is also called Cassava. Native to south and central America and the Caribbean islands, but now cultivated worldwide. This variegated form is cultivated for its stunning decorative foliage and red stems.
Aloe rauhii var. 'White Fox'. A miniature aloe with thick pale green leaves which are heavily mottled with white rectangles. Sap is used on burns. Under high light conditions, the more white it gets. Mature height is 4-6 inches. Perfect for sunny windows. Can tolerate some neglect.
Aloe vera. This useful plant is the source of aloe found in so many soothing creams, soaps, cosmetics, health beverages, and even food preservatives. Has a long history of cultivation for its useful as well as aesthetic qualities. Several plants should be kept around the house for those times when the skin is irritated such as minor sunburn.
Cinnamomum camphora. A large evergreen tree to 40 feet. Glossy, waxy leaves have the appearance and smell of camphor when crushed. Has been used for centuries as a medicine, a culinary spice and a component of incense.
