Bletilla striata. This hardy ground orchid is fairly easy to grow in the ground in your garden or potted. Has bright green leaves and deep pink to purple star shaped flowers. A must for the garden. Produces slender pleated leaves.
Spathoglottis kimballiana. Yellow Ground Orchid is a species of tropical or subropical ground orchid. It is rather easy and forgiving in cultivation. Narrow pleated leaves have a burgundy tint grow 2-3 feet long.
Acacia farnesiana Small flowering tree that is used in France in the perfume industry. Profusely flowering- especially in winter. Interesting twig structure with small thorns. Extremely drought tolerant once established. Some parts of the plant are used as food and for medicines.
Dense clusters of lavender-blue lightly scented trumpet shaped flowers make this a breathtaking favorite of those fortunate to own or see one. They have very delicate deciduous foliage. It is believed that they flower best when grown in poorer soils. Size is usually 2-4" in height. Starter sized trees shipped in 2.5" cell pots.
Callistemon 'Red Cluster' Bottlebrush Tree. Excellent choice in a small red bottlebrush tree. Heavy bloomer from spring through fall. Predominantly upright but slightly weeping branches. Grows 8 - 9 feet in height. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
Gelsimum sempervirens 'Rankinii'. This prolific bloomer is a rare semi-evergreen vine, asimilar to the standard Carolina Jasmine with two differences in the flower. The odorless flowers appear over an extended period in mid spring and again in fall. Native to the southeastern US and is the state flower of South Carolina. One of the first flowers of spring.
Trachelospermum jasminoides Intensely fragrant, pinwheel-shaped flowers one inch across and pure white. Leaves are a glossy deep green. Use this vine to cover fences, trelisses, arbors, lightposts, etc. Space 36 inches apart.
Senecio confusus. Excellent butterfly plant. An impressive and easy to grow vine with abundant one inch daisy-like flowers. Will freeze to the ground in zone 9 but return from roots. May return in zone 8. Zones 9-11.
Lonicera sempervirens. Trumpet Honeysuckle, Coral Honeysuckle. Attractive to hummingbirds. Beautiful slender vine that is a good climber but not too aggressive. 3-20 ft. long, semi-evergreen leaves and 2-4 flowered clusters of red, tubular blooms. ed clusters at the ends of the stems. Unlike the Japanese honeysuckle which can be aggressive, this native plant should be encouraged.
Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls'. Large fragrant, lavender inflorescences hang down from new growth in the spring through mid-summer. Bears medium green foliage from April through October. Can be trained against a wall, fence, or up a tree.
