Punica granatum nana. Pomegranates are native to southeastern Europe and Asia and were grown in ancient Egypt, Babylon, India and Iran. A miniature version of the pomegranate tree, in the form of a deciduous shrub 4-6 feet high; with shining vivid green, narrow leaves and scarlet flowers 1 - 1 3/4 inches long; producing small orange red fruit to 2 inches in diameter with hard rind and juicy edible pulp; attractive as a small pot plant. Pimenta dioica. Crushing the leaves of this plant produces one of the most inviting and intense aromas imaginable. Most people have used the berries but few are aware that the leaves can be used to the same effect, because they are usually unavailable. You must smell fresh allspice to appreciate it. The common name "Allspice" was coined by the English because the leaves and fruit seem to be a wonderful combination of Cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
Malpigia glabra 'Florida Sweet'. Acerola or Barbados Cherry is native to the Caribbean islands and northern South America. It is high in vitamin C content and many C supplements labeled as natural are made of acerola.
Ceratonia siliqua. St John’s Bread. Locust Tree. Handsome evergreen tree to about 30 feet. Some people believe the “locusts” that John the Baptist ate in the wilderness were the pods of this tree. Thus the name, St John’s Bread. The pulp in the seedpods of carob is very nutritious and, due to its high sugar content is sweet.
Pitaya, Pithaya, Hylocereus undatus. Large and sweet fruits with high economic value. Except for their big size (1/2 - 1 1/2 lbs) the fruit is reminiscent of a kiwi fruit in texture and somewhat less so in flavor. It peels as easily as a banana and is very sweet. Dragon Fruit Juice is one the ingredients in the Tropicana® Twister® "Wild Strawberry Dragonfruit" flavor.
Moringa oleifera. Often referred to as Miracle Tree because of it’s versatility and nutritious nature. The immature green pods called “drumsticks” are the most valued and used part of the tree. They are commonly consumed in India and are generally prepared in a similar fashion to green beans and have a slight asparagus taste.

This is the most popular of greenhouse bananas. It became the primary replacement for the Gros Michel Banana which was destroyed by a disease in the 1950’s. The name 'Dwarf Cavendish' is in reference to the height of the plant, not the medium sized fruit. It is one of the most commonly planted banana varieties in commercial production and is the group from which other commercial varieties such as Gran Nain are derived.
This is a favorite small banana because it is so vigorous and strong yet short and takes up little space. Has outstanding fruit that are a deep red and are ripe when almost black. Has red pseudostem.
Blue Java - Ice Cream Banana Plant, many rate this as the best tasting. There's no debate that it is outstandingly delicious. It has a taste reminiscent of vanilla pudding yet firm and sweet. Quite different and superior to the fruit you get at the store. The bananas are medium sized and the flesh is snow white. Its quality is excellent. The color of the fruit is an unusual blue green and the leaves are silver-green.
Not too big and not too small- it's just the right size for a container or as a border plant in the garden. Grows only to about 3 feet in height. Green leaves have red spots on the new growth.
One of the first choices for landscaping because of its sturdiness, extra-wide leaves, and its ability to thrive on neglect more than most other banans. It is is totally green, has a very thick stem and stands up extremely well to wind. The leaves are wider than those of most bananas growing up to 3 feet wide. For a banana that does well with the least effort Raja Puri is the choice. Keeps a very neat appearance with little effort.
